  • Quinine (Cinchona officinalis) is a tree that can grow up to 20 meters in height.  It produces either pink, white, or yellow flowers.  This tree is now widely cultivated in tropical countries.
  • Carqueja (Baccharis genistelloides) is a perennial herb that produces yellowish to white flowers.  It has stalks that have a succulent consistency which takes place of leaves.  The plant is used by indigenous people in liver ailments.
  • Boldo is the common name for Peumus boldus.  It is practiced by locals to promote proper digestion.  It is a slow growing, evergreen tree that can produce berrylike fruit.  This tree is seen growing in the Andes regions.  It is also cultivated in Italy, North Africa, and Brazil.
  • Simarouba amara is an average-sized tree that can grow as high as 20 meters.  It is indigenous to tropical areas including the Amazon, Cuba, Mexico, and other tropics.  Its early uses include remedy for dysentery.
